Greetings Scrivvers!
Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter!
English is perhaps the most widely spoken language in the world.
As a result, there is a ton of materials out there for learning languages written in English. Even people that have only learned it as a second language can use these.
A popular area of study is English as a second language (ESL), but from what I have seen, even those books are written mainly in English.
While it might seem like resources written in other languages are lacking, you can often find them if you look a little harder.
I have spent years looking for language books in stores here in the United States, and since English is the primary language here, I have rarely found anything that wasn't written in English. Only when looking in used books shops did I find any aimed at another language.
A good source which I have found is the German company Langenscheidt, which produces language resources like multilingual pocket dictionaries and phrasebooks.
The Langenscheidt Publishing Group was founded in 1856 by Gustav Langenscheidt when other publishers refused to publish self-study materials developed by him for learning French. He published them himself under the title Unterrichtsbriefe zur Erlernung der französischen Sprache ("Teaching letters for learning the French language"). They were very popular and today Langenscheidt is considered the "Father of distance education".
While Scriveremo Publishing will never reach those heights, we are doing what we can by producing resources for others. And while most of what we produce is in English, we are working to publish in other languages.
Just watch us!
