English Articles and Grammar
Articles are words in a language used to further define the identity of a noun. They exist in many languages, especially those from the romance family. They are the "la/lo" and "una" added before a word in Italian. In German, they include "der" and "ein". In English, the articles are "the" and "a".
There are generally two forms: the definite article, referring to a specific object, and the indefinite, referring to any of a kind of object. "The book" means only a specific book, while "a book" is a generalization.
Not all languages have these. They are absent in most Asian, Baltic, and Slavic languages. This can confuse someone whose native language is one of these when they attempt to learn a language which does have them.
Since the form of the articles also normally relate to the gender of the noun they are defining, extra hindrance is applied if the native language is also absent of word gender.
While English doesn't have genders, learning the proper use of the articles can still be difficult. Fortunately, there is a book to help.
